Simple English definitions for legal terms

distrainee

Read a random definition: vinculo

A quick definition of distrainee:

Term: DISTRAINEE

Definition: A distrainee is someone whose belongings or property have been taken away by a person or organization because they owe money or have not fulfilled a legal obligation.

For example, if someone owes rent to their landlord and does not pay, the landlord may take their belongings as a form of payment. The person whose belongings were taken is the distrainee.

A more thorough explanation:

Definition: A distrainee is a person whose property has been seized by a creditor or landlord as a way of enforcing payment of a debt or rent.

Example: If a tenant fails to pay their rent, the landlord may distrain the tenant's property, such as furniture or appliances, until the rent is paid. In this case, the tenant is the distrainee.

Another example: A business owner who owes money to a supplier may have their assets distrained, such as inventory or equipment, until the debt is settled. The business owner would be considered the distrainee in this situation.

These examples illustrate how a distrainee is someone who has had their property seized as a result of unpaid debts or rent. It is important for individuals and businesses to fulfill their financial obligations to avoid being in a position of being a distrainee.

@mastermonkey45: Looking at some of the recent decisions in relation to when they went complete, I'd say it's a good sign. It seems many declines were sent within about 5-6 weeks of completion. Given those were applications that were SENT in January, I'd say that means you're still solidly in the running. :)
