A quick definition of independent adoption:

Independent adoption is when a family adopts a child without the help of an adoption agency. This means that the birth parents and adoptive parents find each other and make an agreement to adopt the child. Adoption is when a child becomes part of a new family and has all the same rights and responsibilities as if they were born into that family. It is different from fostering, which is when a child lives with a family temporarily. Adoption is usually done when the child is an orphan, has been abandoned, or when the birth parents' rights have been taken away by a court.

A more thorough explanation:

Independent adoption is a type of adoption where the birth parents and adoptive parents make an agreement without the involvement of an adoption agency. It is also known as private adoption.

Adoption is a legal process where a parent-child relationship is created between two parties who are not related by blood. This relationship is established through a court order after it is determined that the child is an orphan, has been abandoned, or the parental rights of the birth parents have been terminated.

Independent adoption is different from agency adoption, where an adoption agency facilitates the adoption process. In independent adoption, the birth parents and adoptive parents find each other and make an agreement on their own.

For example, a couple who cannot have children may choose to adopt a child through independent adoption. They may find a birth mother who is willing to give up her child for adoption and make an agreement with her without the involvement of an adoption agency.

Independent adoption can be a more personal and flexible option for both birth parents and adoptive parents. However, it is important to seek legal advice and ensure that all necessary legal requirements are met.

@syddak: Oof tough spot. Congrats on the As. Did either indicate either via email/mail that they would be following up with aid, and if so, did they provide a time frame? It may be acceptable to email them and indicate seat deposits are fast approaching and you are curious if you can expect further info (aid) from the school to aid u in ur decision..
