request for permission to modify a motion

Read a random definition: acre-foot

A quick definition of request for permission to modify a motion:

A request for permission to modify a motion is when someone wants to change what they previously suggested during a meeting. They have to ask for permission from the group before making any changes. This is because once the chair has stated the motion, it belongs to the whole group and not just the person who suggested it. The same goes for withdrawing a motion, which means ending the discussion without making a decision. Another type of request is when someone wants to be excused from a duty they were assigned. Lastly, there is a request to read papers, which is when someone wants to read something out loud or have it read to them for information.

A more thorough explanation:

A request for permission to modify a motion is a motion made by a member of a parliamentary body to seek permission to amend their own motion after it has been stated by the chair. The mover of the motion can only control it until the chair states the question. After that, the motion belongs to the assembly and the mover cannot modify it without the assembly's permission.

For example, if a member of a school board proposes a motion to increase the budget for a particular program, they may later realize that they made an error in the proposed amount. They can then make a request for permission to modify the motion to correct the error.

Another example is if a member proposes a motion to change the meeting time of the parliamentary body, but later realizes that the proposed time conflicts with another important event. They can then make a request for permission to modify the motion to change the meeting time to a different time that does not conflict with the other event.

Overall, a request for permission to modify a motion is a way for members of a parliamentary body to correct errors or make changes to their proposed motions after they have been stated by the chair.

@mastermonkey45: Looking at some of the recent decisions in relation to when they went complete, I'd say it's a good sign. It seems many declines were sent within about 5-6 weeks of completion. Given those were applications that were SENT in January, I'd say that means you're still solidly in the running. :)

Sent an app to OSU in early december and have STILL not heard back
