subordinate officer

A quick definition of subordinate officer:

A subordinate officer is someone who works under a person in charge, like a boss or a leader. They have a specific job to do and are authorized by the government or a company to do it. They are not the main person in charge, but they still have an important role to play. Sometimes, they may have to act as the boss for a short time, but they don't have the official title.

A more thorough explanation:

Definition: A person who holds a position of trust, authority, or command under a national, state, or local government and is authorized to perform specific functions. They are lower in rank than other officers.

Examples: A police sergeant is a subordinate officer to the police chief. A lieutenant in the military is a subordinate officer to the captain.

The examples illustrate that subordinate officers are lower in rank than other officers and are authorized to perform specific functions under the direction of higher-ranking officers.
