…so make sure to plan ahead)! Despite applying late, the scholarship opportunities at my top schools were beyond anything I could’ve dreamed. The effort really does payoff.

Admitted to Columbia University…and I was content to go there, especially with the scholarship. The only thing that could have changed my mind was Harvard, as I knew I’d get aid, or a better offer from Duke. Didn’t apply for aid at NW, GULC, or CLS. Wasn’t interested in those schools since NW and CLS acceptances came after Harvard. I chose Harvard…
…I feel like I could’ve gotten into HLS or gotten a large scholarship at another t14.
…scales could end up being tipped in your favor by way of scholarships and better outcomes post-law school. Lastly, don’t take any advice you read or hear as gospel. Even what I have just written. Everyone’s process is different. Everyone has different needs and goals. Absorb information through a critical lens and…
Always do the optional essays!! Especially the “Why X” for the schools that really like to see them (UMich, UVA, Duke, Berkeley (mandatory if applying for PI scholarship), UCLA (programmatic contribution), Georgetown, any school that has a dedicated spot in the application to demonstrate interest). I didn’t write a…
…Nothing extra. NYU - Applied to Furman Public Policy Scholars (was rejected for Furman and RTK, despite not applying for RTK…oof). UPenn - Wrote Core Values. Phoned this one in, honestly. UVA - Very detailed WhyUVA about a friend at UVA. Berkeley - Extended my PS as they requested and wrote what I thought was a…
…mean a huge difference in where you are accepted and/or scholarship amounts. (I used 7Sage and PowerScore.) If you think you left points on the table, take it again. **Apps: **Spend a lot of time on all of your applications, including safeties. I included why X paragraphs in every one of my personal statements, and…
…come from the resources you are able to get at the school (scholarships, limited firm slots for each school, face time with professors etc.) and only in edge cases do prestige and connections make a difference. comparing it to your law application, think of school resources like your hards and prestige like your…
…schools I expected to get into and received full-tuition scholarship offers from a couple of reach, even super reach, schools. Considering how discouraging this application cycle was for many people, I feel incredibly lucky (that’s an understatement). My advice for URM applicants, especially those interested in PI,…
…in print and via external grants. I received a full scholarship for my undergrad education at a top-40 national university. I’m also 31, which might come off as “mature.” In my case, I think my GPA and LSAT got me in the door, but my softs were what closed the deal. I wrote why X essays only when it made sense. That…

…DC or NYC. I applied to so many schools hoping to leverage scholarships from wherever possible. Ultimately, I chose Columbia over slightly more money at NYU based on my preference for a quieter neighborhood (Morningside Heights vs. Greenwich Village) and honestly the lay-prestige. My goal is elite biglaw. I think I…
KJD but graduated from undergrad with BA & MA in 4 years. Withdrew from Stanford, Columbia, Penn, and Duke before receiving official scholarship offers. Did not negotiate for more aid from schools.
Renegotiated with Texas Law using all of my other scholarship offers, except NYU (hadn’t received my scholly info yet) – offer went from 54k total to 60k total (off of in-state tuition). Headed to Texas Law to stay close to my fam and significant other! :)
Negotiate your scholarships!!!! The worst they can say is no. With the exception of Northwestern (because they said they weren’t going to negotiate with anyone this year), I got more money everywhere I asked.
…reliably and afford you the option of squeezing a decent scholarship out of Cornell & Georgetown. There isn’t much love for internationals outside of those four schools (and maybe NYU) in the T-14. I say this recognizing that I certainly outperformed my stats in a ridiculous cycle. For reference, I had a 3.97 US…
