Attending school using VA benefits so scholarship negotiation was just insurance if something went sideways with the VA. As a GRE applicant it does not seem like not using the LSAT held me back. I am very happy with my results and gladly going to Penn Carey. Once I identified Penn as my go-to school, I was able to…
…some wisdom to applying to T20s here too for scholarship negotiation purposes. I took a big risk and wrote about a very controversial topic in my PS, which I think led to a lot of the waitlists and the SLS admit. All in all, I wouldn’t change things, but in the middle of February I was definitely regretting it.
…as you have a decent shot of getting into, so you can then negotiate, though this worked because I extensively demonstrated why Berkeley was my top choice, but also why I would actually go to Duke without a competitive scholarship from Berkeley.
…earlier meant As earlier –> earlier finaid –> more time to negotiate! It feels like crunch time right now (late March) and I can only imagine how stressed later applicants feel. Things I would have improved: Could have written/finalized personal statement, diversity statement, supps over the summer. Not sure why I…
…helped with this. Don’t hesitate to ask for fee waivers, negotiate offers, etc. I did not pay the application fee at any of my schools. I did pay the CAS profile fee at each of them Total Cost of Applications: ($195 + (9 schools * $45.00)) = $600.00- Also, don’t put up with sub-par service and responses from…
…and got in with a great chunk of change and plan on negotiating for more
…Originally, my plan was to use St. John’s for scholarship negotiation purposes, but as I learned more about the school and compared my other offers, it was clear that St. John’s was the best option. Had I not decided to apply to St. John’s, I would most likely be in major debt. Personally, I wish I applied to a few…
…years. I was also very successful there. My job was to negotiate cases and I settled thousands of cases for millions of dollars. My soft is that I grew up poor (homeless for many years). My mom was a drug addict and my father completely absent. I also served an LDS mission in Mexico for two years. I fluently learned…
…Yale which opened later)- Didn’t do a whole lot of scholly negotiation because by March I was between UCLA & Penn (barring Stanny) Sent several LOCIs to Stanny, which was my top pick, but a WL is simply not worth turning down that Penn bag Also sent LOCIs to Chicago and Michigan
…It was always UT, everywhere I applied was for leverage to negotiate with UT. I have a lot of personal ties to the university and Austin that were hard to give up. Can’t wait to be a Lawhorn!
Shoot your shot, put good essays together, and sell yourself to the max (and always, ALWAYS negotiate scholarships)!
…grew. Unfortunately, Northeastern does not do scholarship negotiations. They awarded me an extremely generous scholarship, but it felt weird to consider their schollie over the numerous full tuition offers I had received. I ended up choosing Northeastern in the end though. In the end, I decided I cared a lot more…
Negotiate for higher scholarships with EVERY. SINGLE. SCHOOL.
Apply early and broadly Ask for fee waivers (many schools will gladly help offset costs if you ask for it, especially if it’s a financial hardship) Negotiate (don’t give up after the first try) - one of my offers went from 70% initial » asked for more and was told there wasn’t money »> then showed 2 other full…
…You will want these A’s when it comes time for scholarship negotiation. As long as your PS and LORs aren’t terrible, your admission outcomes will be fairly predictable if you look at past applicants from the previous cycle (don’t look at any earlier cycle, 2019-20 will give you false hope and 2020-21 will make you…
…LOCIs right at 12 weeks regardless of holiday breaks. Negotiate as many scholarships as you can. Thank your recommenders!
I applied knowing that I wanted to go to school in the triangle (Duke or UNC) and the rest of my applications were kind of just for negotiation purposes if I could use them. When I got the WL at Duke, it really stung, but when I got accepted off hold at UNC I was so excited & I can’t wait to be a Tar Heel in the fall.
