Definition: A representative is someone who acts on behalf of another person or entity.

There are two main types of representatives:

1. Political Representative: This is someone who is elected to represent a group of people in government. For example, a member of the House of Representatives represents the people in their district. Another example is a senator who represents their state in the Senate.
2. Legal Representative: This is someone who is authorized to act on behalf of another person or entity in legal matters. For example, an attorney represents their client in court. Another example is an estate executor who manages and distributes a deceased person's assets according to their will.

For instance, a lawyer who represents a client in a lawsuit is a legal representative. Similarly, a member of Congress who represents their constituents in the House of Representatives is a political representative.
