Admitted to University of OregonTake time to study/reapply/get your shit together if need be! I feel a lot more ready to start law school now (2022) than I did when I applied for 2020. I’m looking at better scholarship offers, have more work experience, and more dedication to this path–good luck!!
2 letters of rec from former manager who promoted me and from a professor who is a practicing attorney. Currently working in billing at a fairly large firm in Denver. Undegrad in econ with a minor in law studies. App cycle of Fall 2022 will be my second time applying!
PI-based personal statement with 5 years experience in the legal field. Minor CF issues from teens. Dean’s list, honor societies in undergrad. The LSAT is my nemesis. Chose the worst possible time to R&R. Slowly losing my mind with the waiting.
LGBTQ+, will have 1.5 years experience in public interest firm (special education) as a paralegal upon entry to law school, congressional internship. that’s about it. did not end up negotiating any scholly because i knew i was gonna end up at dickinson lol
Make sure you have a safety school! Or a super safety school. It may not be your dream school, but you can try to transfer later, and it feels so nice to finally get my first A after a few rejections. I know I can at least GO to law school this year!
Not a bad cycle overall. I got waitlisted more than I was expecting. Some advice: show interest! If you would consider a school and hold it above another school, then go to interest meetings and schedule meetings 1:1 with admissions people.
Sometimes life just turns you upside down and you have to really look at yourself to decide what you want. Even then, you still may not know. Patience may be a virtue, but that doesn’t mean I have any. (waiting to hear back from schools)
I rewrote/workshopped/edited every piece of writing for every school. This took me weeks to do, which is why my application dates range from late September late November, but it was completely worth it. Work the heck out of your essays.
To shine like Joan of Arc, you must be prepared to burn
Apply to a range of schools. Shoot for a couple shoe in schools for you, a couple right at your range for your stats, and a couple reach schools. That way your bases are covered but you can still shoot your shot.
take the LSAT seriously, its one of the biggest things that can control the outcome of your cycle. Just remember even without t14 A’s, you can still be a fantastic lawyer. An A is an A, be proud of yourself!
You are wholly capable of all of this!
Take the LSAT 2-3 times until you score at or above your LSAT PT average. Give yourself 5+ months to study for the LSAT as well! Apply in September if you can, and definitely before Thanksgiving.
Law school elitism is real. If you compare yourself to everyone else, you’ll spend your whole academic and legal career disappointed. Make the most of what you have and be your best self.
Don’t settle for your first LSAT score!! I took the LSAT 3 times. I started volunteering at my local legal clinic. I knew my gpa wasn’t great and found ways to get my soft stronger.
Ask for a fee waiver at every school you apply for, I received one at all 11 schools. Also NEGOTIATE YOUR SCHOLARSHIPS, it doesn’t hurt to ask and the worst they can do is say no!
do not apply after january, do not assume your lsat score before taking it, do not assume you will get A. put your head down get good lsat score, apply to enough schools have fun
